NAVY LEAGUE.
A meeting of the executive of the New Plymouth branch of the Navy League was held on Friday evening. Then- were present: His Worship the Mayor (chairman). Messrs. W. D. .Webster, McHardy. C. T. Mills. Corkill, and Kimbell.
It was pointed out that there was no room sufficiently large to give all the children a lecture on navy matters. A suggestion was made thjat a movement be set on foot to sell the present drill hall and land, and with t'he funds an up-to-date drillshed could be erected at St. Michael's Square. It was decided to defer the formation of adult sub-branches pending the local branch being properly established. The published rules with reference to establishing school branches were adopted by the committee, subject to the fee being reduced. The secretary was instructed to forward a copv of rules and regulations to the High, Central, West End, and Fitzroy schools, -with a request that the headmasters see their way to favorably consider the establishing of branches.
With a view of enlisting the sympathies of the children and others, it was decided that an entertainment be given during the- coming month, the entertainment to consist principally of harmonv and pictures. His Worship the Mayor and Messrs. Mills, Kimbell, ,1. C. Morey, and Corkill were appointed a committee to make all necessary arrangements. The customary vote to the ehair terminated the meeting. -
