FATHER AND SOX DROWNED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, February 20. Inspector Cullen received the follow-1 in" telegram from the constable at Fapakura: "A labourer named Alfred Francis and his 3y,-year-okl son were drowned near Wayniouth yesterday morning while fishing. The son accident-., ally fell out of the boat and the father jumped into the witter to rescue him. Both were drowned before the eyes of Mrs. Francis, who was also an occupant of the boat. A large number of settlers are dragging for the bodies."
DROWNED WHILE BATHING. Wnnganui, Last Night. George Gibbons, aged 22 years, whose parents reside in South Dunedin, was drowned in the river this morning. Deceased was cook on the river steamer Umuwai, and while the steamer was waiting at Parakino for the down boat he went in for a swim. He evidently was seized with cramp, as ho disappeared suddenly. The body was recovered, later, but life was extinct.
SUDDEN DEATH. Dunedin, Last Night. A man named Alexander Govan, about sl> years of age, residing at Buruside, died suddenly to-night. He left Dunedin by train, and on arrival at Bumside complained of feeling unwell, and suddenly expired. Deceased had been under treatment at Dunedin hospital for heart disease, and only left the institution to-day.
