TARANAKI RIFLE ASSOCIATION
The Taranaki Kille Association was favored with excellent weather conditions yesterday for the opening of its annual rillc meeting. Eutrics received were excellent, and with good light and only a moderately tricky wind, the shooting was good. The competitors were well pleased with the arrangements made, aud the action of the trustees in providing up-to-date targets, trenches, mounds, and so on, was the subject oi much favorable comment. Sergeant-Major Arniitage, as trench of licer, had all his arrangements well planned, and the markers found the improved and enlarged trench, and the new target mechanism, improved the lot of the markers considerably. Lieut.Col. Okcy was in command, Captain Wright and Lieut. Messenger the range olliccrs, and to thein and to Staff-Serge.. ! Major Sanderson (secretary) and Capt. V. T. Mills was due much of the success of the meeting. So far the Huiron Rifle Club and the Taranaki Guards are leading in the amount of prize-money won. THE ANNUAL MEETING. ~ The, Association held it* annual meeting in the Town Hall last night, when JUieut.-Colonel Okey, the president, presided over a large attendance of members, of whom a considerable portion represented volunteer companies and lifle clubs in inland Taranaki. The president explained that the holding of the annual meeting at this time was a departure from the usual course, but it liad been thought that a more representative meeting could be secured during the progress of the rifle meeting Jhnn at any other time. It would still ( lie necessary to hold a general meeting | during the year for the presentation of i the balance-sheet, and to arrange for the annual rifle-shooting meeting. Judging by the attendance, the innovation iwas justified, ELECTION OF OFFICERS. ' Officers were elected—Patron, Colonel Ellis, V.D.
