SHOOTING.
Statf-.Vargcant Major Sanderson, the .secretary to ithe Taranaki Rifle Association, informed a News reporter yesterday morning that already 53 entries had .been received for the: forthcoming ride meeting to he held on the Itewa Rcwa ran™ this week. About seventy entries are "expected. A pleasing feature is the very good representation of the district volunteers and rifle clubs. At the instance of Cr. Mills (Captain of the Taranaki Guards), the Borough Council considered the application oi the Taranaki Eiflo Association for a grant of £lO to the funds of the Association in connection with the forthcoming meeting. In answer to Cr. Browne, Cr! Mills said the Government was givin" £ls. Cr. Mills pertinaciously stuck to'.his guns, but the Council refused to rescind the previous resolution referring the matter to the Finance Committee for its report, The matter will thus tonic up at next meeting o'f the Council. .«
