At a meeting of master bakers, the question of introducing the cash coupon system ntfas discussed, and in view oif tile reported success elsewhere the system was unanimously approved. The dates of inaugurating the system locally will be decided at a. future meeting. AN OFFICIAL'S DISMISSAL. Christehureh, Last Night. A rather interesting question has arisen in connection with the dismissal of Miss Harrison Jro i the position of •school mistress at Tc Oranga. Miss Harrison appealed to the Teachers' Institute to support her in her protest, I and at \)w last meeting of the committee. her lettvr'was- considered, it was pointed out. however, that the Education Act only imule provision for the Institute taking slops to forward au appeal whore the appellant was a teacher employed by an Education Board. As Mks Harrison is not employed by any Hoard but by the Department, it was thought that the Institute could not do uny'thing in connection with her appeal. If was decided to forward the correspondence to the executive in Wellington. with a. view of getting a legal opinion on the question raised. Whether the Institute would in any case support Jtfiits Harrison in. her appeal is still an o.pcn question.

A deputation -from the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants ,upon waiting on the. "Minister for Kail* v.a,ys, is reported to .have been informed that .in future all promotions would he made according to the applicant's , length of service. Au incompetent uian. however, as has always been the ease, might be passed over, and preference given to a more thorough work•man with perhaps not'quite such length of service. In regard to a certain M'anUwatu employee's appointment, concerning which au indignation meetling was recently held in the Pctonc {workshops, the deputation was given to (understand that the appointment was louly temporary.

He paid all uflieial visit the Iviuikura Stale Kami, He leaves here lor Auckland by the run a.m. express. He will receive several deputations hi the morning ami make presentation of a thig to the schools at 11 o'clock. In the afternoon he will be present at the Oddfellows' picnic at Motutapu: and leaves Auckland on Sunday night by the express for AViHliugtoa, to transact business there on Tuesday morning.
