DISTRICT NEWS.

RAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent). The niaay friend* of Mr. Jlars llil'l I will be pleased to know that he is back again from Xthv Plymouth, where he had 'been confined to the hospital for somv weeks as the result of a serious accident received whilst bush-falling,. 'He is now able to get about with the aid of crutches. We hope, however, that he will soon be ab'.e to discard tlreui. Mr. F. Baker met with a nasty accident at the Opunakc Sawmilling Co.'s Kalmi Road sawmill on, Monday. He was using an axe, when it slipped and severely cut his foot. He was at once removed to thv Xew Plymouth Hospital. Mr. Cotter, of the Arawhata Road, is the latest settler in this district to-go lin for a milking machine. Several others are thinking of installing machines before next season. Mr. S. Hill, Government Valuer, is at present in this district. As a result of his visit it is expected that valuations; wilt go up considerably in some cases. Some st-ttlers- are already talking of objecting to the valuation before they know what it is to be. Such is life. It is impossible to stroll through our city bv night or by day without being besieged bv voting ladies anxious to sell one a chance in a raffle 1 of some work of art in aid of the new hall funds. Everyone, however, pays up smilingly (except in very rare instances) as they realise that it is for a. good object, and that the hall which is now in course jf erection is much needed and will undoiibtedlv be a boon to the district not only of'Bahotu, but of Oaonui and Fimgarehu, as it should induce decent companies to visit us. The County Council on Friday last decided to get Mr Mclfanighan, county foreman, to give, an estimate of the cost of the footpath required for Rahotu. This was the outcome of a deputation consisting of Messrs Hughson and West. The deputation was also asked to find out what financial assistance the Rahotu people were prepared to give. The matter will then be discussed l at next meeting.
