COUNTY FOREMAN'S NARROW ESCAPE. . (By Telegraph.—Special to "News"). Raliotu. Last Night. Mr. Mc-Hanniglian, county foreman, had a narrow escape from a fatal accident. He had charged a hole in a pit at Pungarehu this morning, when it failed to go off. Some four houns later lie returned and fired off a small charge, with a view to it firing the large one. Tlie small one went off all right, but not till his- reituru to the hole some time la,tfr did the first charge go off. He w<is knocked over the face of the pit some 11 feet, receiving serious injuries to his chest. He was at once brought to Raliotu by Hekc Mantin. who was working with him, and attended to by Dr. Barron. His injuries are fortunately not of a dangerous nature, though it will •be some time before he will be about again. ,
