The signals were answered, but as no ! request was made for assistance the Waikare came on. It was a Union Company's boat, but her identity was not ascertained. The weather at the time was line, with a slight wind. The Arapawa arrived here at four I o'clock this afternoon, and reported having seen no sign of any other vessel. THE SEQUEL. ASHORE NEAR THE HURUNUI RIVER. I _ Christehureh, Last Night. It is reported that a large steamer, name at present unknown, is ashore or broken down oil' the mouth of the Hurunui River. Immediately on her arrival from Wellington this morning the Union Company's Mararoa was sent up the coast to render assistance. No further I details are at present available here, j
