This afternoon the Takapuna wU nuke a short excursion in the vicinity ef the harbor in connection with the JBltham School picnic. The Rarawa brought 45 tons of cargo from Onehunga yesterday. This included 985 bags of sugar, 230 cases of fruit, 45 crates of cucumbers, and a quantity of flour. The Mana, -which was ashore at l'atea for some days, wat re-floated on Tuesday morning, and left at mid-day for Wellington. She was undamaged. The advent of competition in the Wcl-limrton-Wanganui shipping service has awakened the Wcllington-Wanganm Steam Packet Company, and it is reported that they intend putting the Moa and Putikl on the Wanganui-Wel-lington trade again. It is also rumored that they will run two steamers regu-
larly from Wellington to Patca. Although the wreck of the Hawea has become a fixture where she is on the rocks at the north aide of the entrance of the port of Greymouth (says the Grey River Argus), she will soon be in pieces. A couple of blasts ■ •era put In on Tuesday, anil one of them was effective in breaking things. There Is still a good deal about the wreck in the shape of machinery that it will pay to remove, and a salvage party Is still' engaged on behalf of the company In recovering anything of value that can be saved.
