M'NEIL, THE GAOL-BREAKER
CAPIURED lIP THE WAXGA.NTI ; RIVER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wangantti. Wednesday. Archibald McNeil, who escaped from Terrace Gaol, Wellington, on January 23, was captured this morning at Kori niti pah, 40 mUes up the Wanganui river, by Constable Thompson. Prisoner was reported to have been seen at Wangaehu, 13 miles from here, last Thursday, since when the police have been on his trail, lie represented himself as a relative from Australia to a farmer near Wanganui and stayed there a couple of day?, being traced from there to Kor iliici.
He violently resisted arrest and once got away from tho constable, making for a horse which he had saddled and bridled in case of surprise. McNeil, who is. a powerful fellow, said he had vainly tried to get possession of a revolver aud if lie had one he would not have iieen captured. He had a razor and a pocket kuifo on him when arrested, and vainly endeavored to get at the razor when struggling with the joliceman.
