THE LICENSING ELECTION.
To the Editor. Sir.—l have noticed that our worthy Mayor is bothering bis already worried I head about the licensing election, and I begin to wonder how long the public is going to be dictated to in this way. According to the. laws which we have had to pay so nianv men to make, the ipiople have the night to elect their licensing commit too. lint under the pre-enl conditions it seems that the liuuor-sellors on llie one hand, and .1 few self-appiiitted important personages in the temperance cause usurp our •privileges. It will be a bad day for us when we consent to be. governed in this luiattinr by such extremists,, and, for the sake of our sacred democracy, I hope that someone will stand for the licensing 'committee apart,, altogether from the clhiuc and force upon the beer men and water men a contested election. There is room for a, change in blood.—l am. etc., MODERATE.
