A STATEMENT DENIED
■ WELLINGTON POST OFFICE ACCOMMODATION Bv Telegraph.—Press Association. 'Kotorua, last Night. ' The statement recently made bv Mr. A. W. liiithcrford, ex-M.P., regarding the Wellington Post Ollice was referred to by the Post muster-General (Sir Joseph Ward) in the course of an interview to-night. The assertion of Mr. Hiitherford that all the space iu the General I'ost Ollice at Wellington was not, occupied, was, Sir Joseph said, quite contrary to fact. As a matter of fact, the Department was paying the sum of . Oiu'll as rental for outside prcinis-.'s that had to be leased in carrying on (mulches of the business, for which room could not be found in the General Post Ollice. This entailed a. great deal of extra labor by reason of the divided departments aiid the maintenance of a messenger service between the different tillices, and it also caused inconvenience to the public. To show that Wellington was not being treated exceptionally ill regard to post ollice expenditure, he referred to the proposed new office at Auckland, and the sums that Iliad been spent in past years on improvements at Auckland, Christcliurch, lUimcdin and other towns.
