AMUSEMENTS.
LEO, J AX, AND MISCIIEL CHEllNlAV&lvi. TO-NIGHT. iho three Russian- instrumentalists, whose remarkable performances on the violin, piano, ami 'cello have caused a furore of excitement in Wellington, Chricstehurch, and Duucdin, are to give a recital in the Theatre Royal, New Plymouth, this evening. The Christchurch Press of 18th December says: "The advent on Thursday, night of the' trio of marvellously clever young Russian instrumentalist* whom Mr. Branscombe luus brought to us marked a most notable era in uuusical events in Christchurch. indeed, it is not too much to say that it was:, without exception, the Jinest interpretation of instrumental mu>io we have had. It was not only that the effect of the combination of the trio of artists was marvellous in its warmth of color and wealth of temperament, but each—so far an hia particular instrument was concerned—achieved a brilliant <iml complete artistic success. There was a virility ;ind power displayed in the interpretation of the various numbers which, when the . three players were iu combination, ' nearly resembled the. volume and tone of a moderate-sized orchestra." The | Chcrniakskis' colonial tour is under the | personal direction of Mr. Edward Branscombe, who directed the tour of the Scarlet Troubadours and the Westminster Glee Singers. The plan of reserved seats is now open at the Collier and ' Colonial Piano Company's rooms, where second-seat tickets may also be obtained. Prices of admission 2s, reserved 1 seats 4s.
