UNITED SERVICE A v. UNITED SERVICE B. The above match was played o» the Recreation Ground on Saturday, and after most exciting fluctuation's,' resulted in a win for 13 team by 14 runs. The match was realy won with seven wickets in hand, but the two skippers agreed to play out to a finish. The wicket was in a deplorable condition after a few minutes' play, and this was solely accountable for the ridiculously small scoring. Southall won the toss and sent the A team hi to bat. Robertson, and McCord opened to the bowling of Southall and Preshaw. Southall clean bowled McGord with his first ball, but the umpire had, unfortunately for the bowler, called a trial. After "> runs had been tallied, Robertson put his leg in front of one from Southall and had to retire. Ingram followed, and he ami McCord rail the total to 24 before Presliaw got his bails with a beauty. After that the procession started, as Preshaw was bowling splendidly and was quite unplayable. Me finished up the innings with the splendid average of six -wi&ets for 11 runs. McCord saw all his colleagues dismissed, as lie carried his bat right through the innings for a very patiently played 14. The "Bees" had a disastrous tinve on going in to bat, as McCord and Wood were bowling with deadly effect. Kive wickets were down for 3 runs, and the sixth fell at 7 runs. Southall made a slight stand, but was well caught by Bopock in the long Held on attempting to hit Wood for a sixei. Jilie innings finally realised 25 runs, or 14 behind the A total.

The A's in fclioir second venture made one less than in their first kinings total, making 77 fin* tire two innings, and leuvinn; |} team el total of to make up for a win. No A batsman made a respect' able stand in the second innings, as Southall and Preshaw were still 0:1 the spot. These two bowlers trundled mi-, changed right through the two innings. The B team realised Unit they just had a porting chance of pulling ihe match out of the lire. The first three wickets fell for 17. and the outlook was none too bright; but the inimitable Preshaw —ably supported by Napier—opened his shoulders with ii vengeance, and in less than half an hour these two batsmen had hit oIV the required number of runs without being separated. It was a fine iperformance, and Preshaw made himself quite the "hero of the day" by practically winning the matclr hfmself, Jt was a fine uphill struggle, as the odds, at one time, were very much against the B team. The fielding of both teams was very fair, the A team perhaps showing more knowledge of ground fielding. I'NTIT/D SERVICE A.—First innings.
