Waddell, Treasurer for New South Wales, in a .speech at Grafton, complained that New Zealand and other States were, exploiting the market by selling their stocks up to 4 per cent., and that the Government had not increased the rate of interest paid for stock issued by the Treasury. While realising the vital importance of traders and other keeping the interest rate low, if neighbouring Oovernmcnts continued to exploit the market by outbidding in rates of interest, he may be forced in self-defence to raise the rates.
