A team of players from the Stratford Tennis Club, eschewing the delights of the seashore, played ;i match yesterday against the Xew Plymouth club on (he latter's courts in Vivian Street. Th:' lawns played well, despite the hare places worn iu the recent tnuruame.ii. Tlte weather was perfect, mid a largjc number of elub members and friend* assembled to watch the play. The local club entertained the visitors at luncheon at the Kia Ora rooms, and at afternoon tea on the courts. Play commenced ai about 10.30 a.m. and continued until late in the afternoon, the visitors returning home bv the excursion train at five o'clock. Tile day passed very enjoyably, and the local cl'ib desires lo thank those ladies and gentlemen wlio by their ever readiness to act as umpires made the work of management unite a pleasure. Honours rented somewhat easily with the local player-. Of the total of 205 games played. Xew Plymouth secured 212. and Stratford Sl}.
