GOVERNMENT PAY DAY
AN UNACCOCNTAIiLE DELAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. ChrUtehurchj Last Night. The co-operative workers on the railway extension works at Domett have written at some length to the lion. R. MeK.en/.ie on the subject of the. delay in the payment of fheir wages. They allege that they started work on October tith, and that they have only received two pays between that date and the present. They cannot understand by what method of calculation the Minister arrives at the conclusion that monthly pays are being adhered to. They ask" for compensation for the suspension of contracts between December 24th and January f>th, alleging that they were willing to work but were 'not allowed to do so. The letter is signed by .V> men. On Tuesday some of the men applied for an advance of pay, but were refused, and in consequence Mr. Campbell, president of the Union, .sent the following telegram to Sir Joseph Ward:—"Cooperative workers at Doinett have not received any wages for -even weeks; please, sir, would you dole us out i» lew shillings each and keep us living."
