DISTRICT NEWS.
TARIKI. (From Our Own, Correspondent.) The funeral of the late Mr. Charles Simons took place on Sunday last, and the very large attendance—there being over 40 vehicles, besides a number of horsemen—marked the respect and es■leeiii with which deceased was regarded j throughout tho district. Mr. Simons was a native of Monmouthshire, and arrived in New Zealand 38 years ago bv the ship Ma rope. After spending some nine years in Canterbury he came to Taranaki, and was olio of the pioneers of Midhirst, where he took up land and resided till about 17 years ago, when he came to Tariki Road. The deceased gentleman leaves a widow and a number of sons and daughters—Mrs. Beiielield, •Mrs. W. Jones, Mrs. 11. Jones and Misses Mary, Emma, and Lear Simons, the sons being Messrs. William, Thomas •ITenry, Albert and George. Deep sympathy is felt for Mr. Tom Simons, who in addition to his father, has had the sad misfortune to lose his little daughter, who died early on Sunday morning, aniTVas interred at Inglewood on WedI nesday.
