LAWN TENNIS ASSOCIATION

THE TARAXAKI EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the Taranaki Lawn Tennis Club was licld on Friday afternoon. Present—Dr. Lea thain (president), Messrs J. Weir (Hawera), Annitage (Patea), Johns (St. Andrews), H. S toe leer (Waitara and Wymi), and «T. Pa ton (secretary). An apology was received for the absence of Mr Nicholson. The secretary reported that he had reflnved a communication from the Auckland Association saying that it would In; convenient for the Northerners to play the Taranaki-Anr-klami match on February 20. action of tlie secretary was eonllrmed. It was decided that Messrs J. C. Nicholson (New Plymouth) and Cliff Dickie (Waverley) should ho appointed selectors of the Taranafci representative team to play Auckland. The question of entertaining the Auckland players was discussed. It was pointed out that very sparse arrangements had heeu made for the local team s entertainment when it visited the Northern city last year. Various ways of entertaining the visitors were suggested, hut nothing definite could he arranged until it was ascertained how many visil- j ing players would lie coming and how long they intended to stay in Xew Plymouth. Filially the secretary was instructed to Vrite to Auckland to obtain enlightenment on the matter. The meeting was very adverse to the use of Sykes' balls, and their abolition was freefv discussed. It was pointed out that at the present time there was only a few associations that favoured their use. Xothing definite was done in the matter, the opinion of the other clubs under the Association's jurisdiction to be taken before a move is made in the matter. The balls are, however, to be abolished locally.
