Arrangements arc being made to obtain the services of a medical man for the district between Henley Flat and Jackion's. The workers" union agreed to a levy of lid per member per week for the pnrpoM'. and ill- McLean (one ot the contractors) has guaranteed £2O. With the <iovcrnmcnt subsidy this should be sutlicieut for lilt! purpose mentioned. Mr. Seddon intends urging the Ciovcrnmcnt to grunt the rights, for which application lias been made, to take water from the rivers for the purpose of generating electricity for mining operations. 'The railway construction between Tirokcti River' and the l'ass is being pushed on, and so soon as the distance to be covered by coach is reduced, it is ■possible that arrangements can be made for passengers front the Coast connecting with the ferry boat at Lyttelton the same evening, and for passengers for the Coast from Wellington connecting with the Broken River train from 'Ollristchurch. lie expects that the Hoki-tika-Ross railway will be opened in about a month.
