AMERICAN MEMBERSHIP. New Y'ork, January 28. Including persons affiliated by family ties to members, whether they belong ■to an organisation or not, the census k'ivos the following results:— 1 Roman Catholic Church in the United States a total of 22,474,440 members. This total includes the Philippines and other islands under the American flag and it gives 14,235,451 persons In the United States uropcr. The N'cw Y'ork correspondent of The Times says that these statistics arc useless for the purposes of comparison inasmuch as other churches enumerate their actual members.
■ lla/ell's Annual for 1908 said that •t lie United States had about 13,000,000 Roman Catholics, 14 archbishops and fwt bishops, about 15,100 priests, about 12.158 churches and chapels and 1,270,000 pupils in Catholic schools.
