RAILWAY TIME-TABLE
NO ALTERATION. New Plymouth has hee:i*greatly agitated for some time past lest in the framing of the .Main Trunk railway service the New Plymouth section would ho relegated to a secondary position. U one tune there was every reason to believe, on the authority of the District Irallic Manager, that the arrival of the mail train at New Plymouth was to be considerably delayed, and the various local bodies and semi-public institutions iu the district made representations to the Minister of Railways protesting against this retrogressive stop, and pointing out the serious damage that must accrue to Taranaki's interests by instituting a train service that would so detrimentally dislocate the New Plymouth to Onehunga steam service. The Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister of Railways, conversing with a Daily News representative last night, imparted the very pleasing information that there would be no change whatever in the Wellington-New Plymouth mail train service. This line and the Main Trunk would be run quite independently of 'each other as two services. For 'his own part, lie could not see how the .Main Trunk line would get much Auckland traffic from Wanganui and northwards, although for a year or so many people, even from New Plymouth, would travel to Auckland by rail, tempted by the novelty of the thing. After that he thought this service would hold its own fairly well. As for the present fallingofT in passenger traffic, lit was th« usual slackness after the holiday season.
