The i|iiestion of prwiaing lor chronic consumptives was at a meeting of the .North Canterbury Hospital Board today referred to the House Committee tor consideration, and was decided to ascertain from the Health Department the number of chronic consumptive cases in Canterbury for whicn public provision would reipiire to lie made. It was stated that the consumption sanatorium which tho Hoard takes over curly next month was originally intended only for curable cases.
WELLINGTON HALF-HOLIDAY. Wellington, Last Night. At the statutory meeting of local bodies to-day, Wednesday was selected as the day for the weekly half-holiday for shop assistants. A petition is in circulation in favour of Saturday, and, <if a sufficient number of signatures : s obtained, which is very doubtful, the question will be settled at a poll of the electors.
A POLL REJECTED. Hastings, Last Xight. A proposal by the Hastings llorough Council to raise a loan of 1:10.000 for sewerage extension purposes was to-iluv rejected by 3-1!) votes to 278.
POLLCU RAIDS. Invercargill, Last Night. To-night the police again raided Poll's Carriers' Arms Hotel cm Dee street and (seized, a quantity of liquor. At about 'the same, time another posse made, a similar search of .Mils. .McAulill'e's Shamrock Hotel in Spey street and there '.also liquor was seized. Prosecutions ■will probably follow.
