Eire Brigade batted first, but made a poor stand against the bowling of Preshaw and Southall, the only batsmen to give any trouble being Uullot, Clark anil Hardwiek. Service started their innings badly, losing three wickets for three, runs, but when l'reshaw and Southall started hitting freely the issue was not long in doubt. Dixon's score was also very serviceable. , Fire Brigade were very much handicapped by a wet ball. Hardjvick, Dankis and Clark were the most successful bowlers. Scores:— FIRE BRIGADE. The above match was played at Egmoiit Village on Saturday and resulted ill a win for the A team by nine runs. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. Rain had commenced and theiv seemed little hope of its clearing. Accordingly the match was pja.ved in driving rain, and this, with the long grass, prohibited big scores. The A.'s created a diversion by appearing on the ground without socks—a very sure way of going home with dry socks. The match was altogether full of fun, especially when La wry. in making a smart run, ran half way and slid the rest, his feet ending bevond the wicket* and bis head on the batting crease. The local men very kindly refreshed all hands with hot tea and eatables, which were, most acceptable. Scores:— UNITED SERVICE A. Robertson, cR. Marsh, b O'Byrne .. 5 Hartigan. bO.
