SOUTH AFRICAN FEDERATION
AUSTRALIA'S EXPERIENCE* A WARNING NOTE. Received 24, 4.15 p.m. Durban, January 23. Mr. Watson, ox-Premier of the CoinliKHiweuilth, interviewed at Durban, warned the National Convention against following Australia's example in allowing sovereignity to the large States. He thought the central Parliament should have much greater control. Australia would, lie said, be better oil ii slim had a far more centralised constitution. He attributed little weight to the objections this might cause in respect of neglect of local demands. London, January 23. The Times' Capetown correspondent adds that this advice is not entirely palatable to Natal, but is wholly in ac- | cordanee with the views of a majority of the Convention. 1
