CONTROLLING STRIKES.
LABOR COUNCIL AND THE UNIONS. Sydney, January 22. The Labor Council has not yet finish--od its discussion of the motion modifyliug?! a previously adopted general strike motion. The new motion proposes that no union shall order members to cease work or take any actioni calculated to involve affiliated unions 'in industrial troubles, without first affording the Council the opportunity of investigating the matter with a view to securing a peaceful settlement where practicable. : It was explained that the intention was to prevent the unions t'voni prematurely commencing a striV.' before consulting the Council, and l!i?i: coming to the Council- for financial assistance. The Council despatciie.l two delegates to Broken Hill to Investigate the trouble with a view to future action.
