ROBBERY IN PALMERSTON NORTH.' CAUGHT IN THE ACT AND iws\ JAW. The sergeant followed the leg inside, and discovered the man hiding under a table. Ou seeing the officer the housebreaker showed signs of fight, picking up a ihoard with which, to. defend himself, but he was not quick enough to evade the sergeant's " right," which floored him before the board could he used to any purpose. Meanwhile Constable Connor had forced an entrance by the door, and the man was taken to the police station. It appears that the room was occupied by Mr. Alfred Drew, and the bag contained his piano-tuning instruments, valued 'at about £.15.
Accused, who gave his name as Edward Marra,' appeared before Mr. A. D. Thomson, S.M., on Tuesday, iand wits charged with breaking and entering and theft.
Evidence was given by Sergeant Stagpoole, Constable Connor, and Alfred Drew, after which accused pleaded guilty,, and was committed for sentence to the Supreme Court at Wellington.
