CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS. By Telcgrapn.—Pres 3 Association. Auckland, Thusday. The University Senate appointed the Chancellor and l'rofessors Sale and McMillan Brown its representatives at the Darwin centenary. The Chancellor, on his own motion, was requested to bring tlio question of siiperanniiation for University teachers mid ofticcrs before the Premier so that the Government and Parliament may make due provision for it.
Hie Chancellor's suggestion that there should only be one examination for the University entrance and Civil Service was opposed by Mr (I. Hogben, who said that only thirty scholarships were given, while hundreds were required for the Civil Service and one examination would not do for both. 'Dr. Fitehe.tt said that the system of making two examinations one would lake many people to the University who now never got there. He gave notice to move that it would be" an advantage both to the Government aud to the University if the Civil Service examinations' were taken over by the University as far as possible.
