RIFLE SHOOTING.
TAItAXAEI IS'IFLE ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the committee elected to arrange for the programme for the forthcoming shooting matches under the auspices of the; Taranaki liille Association was held at the Urill Hall on Thursday night. There were, present: Colonel Okey (in the chair),' Major SaudJforU, Captain F. Okev, Captain'C. T. .Mills, Lieut. \Y. 11. Beadle, I'rivates Alarett ami Hill, and .Messrs. Aiuckav and Speck, of Stratford. The programme of last year's match- , es was considered and several aniendnien'ls weru made. ! A motion suggesting the. cutting ilown of the amounts of the leading prizes and extending tlie lower awards, wa.s negatived, it being considered that the. support promised throughout the district warranted the. committee in maintaining the full prize-list as ollered last. year. -Matches were made in accordance with tin. district centres—nine in alias follows:—Waitara, Inglcwood, New Plymouth and Stratford -matches, two Oove'iuniont matches, two cadet matches, grand aggregate, last try, and teams matches. ' . The only variation in entrance fes was Unit, of the teams mulch, which was reduced to Ills as agaiiisi CI last year, the opinion of the cnm'initlee being that there were many more clubs and corps who would avail themselves of the opportunity of putting in a ieain if the .fee were not so high. It was resolved that steps be "taken, to interview prominent s'hooli.ig men at the different centres throughout the district, with a view to enlisting their support. The date of the meeting lias been fixed for February 2J and 25, entries closing on February 20 with the secretary, Sergt.-Major Sanderson.
