MINE OWNERS' DEFENCE. Sydney. January 20.. The Proprietary' Company has filed in the Federal Arbitration Court an answer to the unions' claims. It contends that the rate of wages rulin" at one mine should not necessarily rule at the rest, and that if the old rate continued ditliitulties would b" placed in the -way of profitably workin" the mines., considering the amount o/ native ore roinaining in the mine, lib,., increased cost of treatment, the full in the price of metiil-. and otnoi matters.
