WAITARA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Last Sunday Mrs. O. N. Skelton passed away after 'sullering from puerperal fever. Deep sympathy is felt for thebereaved husband, who has been left •with seven young children to mourn fliis loss The deceased lady was •buried at the Tikorangi cemetery on •Monday
• Mr. Ernest Edmonds, of Waihi, was conveyed to the New Plymouth Hospital on Saturday, having sustained a bad cut on the thigh through falling on a a axe.
Last Friday evening a meeting was held to consider the matter of the Regatta Committee's suggestion re altering the date of this year's regatta. The chairman stated that several clubs would be unrepresented if the date already choseu was adhered to, and it seemed that it would be in the best interests of the annual event to postpone it until later in the year. Mr. Cain proposed and Mr. W. Young seconded that the date be altered. This was carried, and a discussion then took place on the question of the most suitable date It was finally decided for 11th March, when there will be a good tide. 1 The s'.s. Oraiii departed ifrom the roadstead early on Tuesday morning with the following cargo:—37s7 carcases lamb,, &JO7 quarters beef, 082 frozen .sundries, 1273 bales wool, 100 casks tallow, H casks oles, 24 casks pelts. The steamer goes on u>. Napier. Ihe next boat to load will be the New Zealand Shipping Company"* Kaikoura. which is expected about 25th January.
