A large number of persons attended the «ale of sections in Mr. Sydney Johnston's Mokoin estate, near Woodville, held here to-day. Only two sections were sold at the hammer, one at £2O and the other at £2 per acre. The reserves on the bulk of the land were considered far too high. After the sale two other small sections were sold at the reserved price, viz., £25 per acre. BURGLARY AT LYTTELTON. Christchureh, Last Night. The premises of Mr. Jarman, known as the Royal Cafe, in Norwich Quay, Lytteltou, were entered last night, and a large quantity of table cutlery, valued lit about £lO, stolen. It is supposed that an entrance was effected through n door or window at the rear of the building. HEAVY RAIN IN CANTERBURY. Christchureh, Last Night. After several days of unsettled weather, heavy rain commenced to fall dur' ins the night, and, judging by the present indications, is likely to continue. The removal of Lioirel Terry from Lyttclton Gaol to the Sunnyside Mental Hospital was carried out last night very quietly. That he was to go last night at all was unknown only to very few, and he was quietly conveyed to the station in a dray, man, luigs and baggage. The warders who had charge of him waited till there was scarcely anyone about, and then placed him in a firstclass carriage and pulled down tho blinds to stop the curious gaze of the railway porters and the night owls. Terry went quietly and utterly discounted the preparations that hud been made for any showy behaviour he might indulge in. PRIZE-FIGHTING PICTURES. ■Wellington, Wednesday. A jrotest has been forwarded to th« Premier against kinematograph reproductions of the recent prize-fight on. the ground of its repulsive and degrading character. Two arrests were made here yesterday in connection with the discovery of an illicit still in the town. The arrests were made by Police Inspector ' Kiely, Sergeant MeKinnon, and three constables. The police visited a washhouse nt the rear of (he premises, and, receiving no reply to a knock, burst open the door, where a still waa'faind, with William Maidens, n miner, and Williavn •Tack, a hushimin. A complete plant, with thirty-sis gallons of fermenting whisky, was seized. At the Court this morning the accused were remanded on hail. ■ SLIP IX THE MANAWATU GORGE. Palmerston N., Wednesday.
