SEQUEL TO A TRAGEDY. London, December 2S. The body of Mrs. Earls, who was concerned in the Dublin Bay tragedj, cabled on November IS, has been lound drowned.

[An inquest was held at Dublin concerning the death of Mrs. Lloyd, w.io was reported to have been thrown over a cliff at Howth (a seaside town of Dublin) by two rullians who stopped "tier and her sister, Mrs. Earls, and demanded their money. Mrs. Lloyd's husband gave evidence that he believed his wife fell over the clil! while attempting to prevent her sister from comuunug suicide. Mrs. Earls was found in a fainting condition on the edge of the cliff. A doctor confirmed Mr. Lloyd's .theory of the tragedy.]

CHICAGO BEEF PACKERS' METHODS.

New York, December 23. President Roosevelt is instituting a searching inquiry into the methods of the Chicago beef packers with a view to prosecuting for any violation of the anti-trust and anti-rebate laws wnicb may be detected, especially in connection with receiving rebates from railways.

Berlin, December 28. Joseph Racke, an undergraduate at Bann University, and son of a milionaire of M:\yence. spent Christmas at his home. He rose at 2 o'clock in the morning and stealthily stabbed to death his sleeping father and three sisters, but tlvc remainder of the household were not disturbed. Racke inreturned to his bed and slept until the crime was discovered in the morning. He attributed the act to bis father refusing him a large sum of money.

EARTHQUAKES IN ITALY. Rome, December 28. ' A severe earthquake lias occurnl Calabria. Three people were killed .nJ sixty injured at Stefanaconi, two killed at San Gregario, and many in jured at other Calabrian hamlets. There was also great destruction and loss of life at Caltanisett and other Sicilian towns.
