BRIBERY EXTRAORDINARY. BANKERS AND CITY COUNCILLOR: ARRESTED. New York, December 24. The seven Pittsburg Councillors ai rested the other day arc accused c conspiring to secure by bribery th passing of certain ordinances counccle with the. issue of municipal bonds. The two bankers who are under ai rest are the president and cashier c the German National Bank. The investigation was initiated b President Roosevelt, Renter's Pittsburg corresponden states that six of the Councillors wh are wanted have disappeared, a (letti tive having warned them. The detei tive has been dismissed. Witness testified that sixty Counci tors were bribed with forty-five thous and dollars to secure the authorisatio of a liltration plant. One witness swore that a Councillo had hinted to him that there wei only six members of the Council wh could not be bribed. One Councillor was detected b strategy. He received in a hotel bribe in connection with a wood-pavin undertaking. A llashlight photograp was taken showing him in the act t receiving the bribe. An investigation into the affairs c the German National Bank discovers that seventeen thousand five hundre dollars had been paid to members c the Finance Committee of the Counc to secure the transfer to the bonk c the city's deposits.
