RIFLES FOR WOMEN.
PARIS, October 30. I Mine. Madeleine Pellctier, a doctor of I medicine and a prominent feminist, is i demanding the right of military service J for women. She considers that all I Frenchwomen, like all Frenchmen, I should serve two years in the army. I The idea of " feminine " conscription was suggested to her, she says, by the constant remark addressed to her by men at her lectures : " If you want to vote, why don't you serve in the army as we do ?" "But, niadame," inquired an interviewer, " how can oire compel women to carry a heavy rille and make long marches their arms are weak and their feet delicate." "Lighter weapons will be manufactured for us," Mine. Pellctier replied. Besides, instead of being lighters, we could bo employed in the infirmaries and the commissariat. But we should have a uniform. It gives a certain prestige and commands respect. Military gymnastics, rille practice, and marches will he valuable training to us all."
