CHOPPING.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Elthain, Last Night. A large number of axemen arrived at Elthain last night and to-day, including Esau Pretty, V. Williams (winner of the Melbourne Carnival Handicap in 1907), and several prominent South Island and East Coast axemen. Milcy, the Australian champion, arrives from Taihape to-night. Taihape axemen at ■present here state that Miley is in I splendid form, and anticipate he will establish new records in the championship. Dave Pretty will arrive on Thursday morning. His brother Esau states that Dave is in splendid form. A large number of side-shows is here in anticipation of a record gathering on Saturday and Monday.
