KNIQCIIiY IN N.S.W. A (JUCSTIOX Ur' JURISDICTION, Received z;i, U.M a.m. Sydney, .December 22. The Murine Coma met for the purpose of holding un inquiry regardiug the Loeli Lomond. 'Die Crown Law Ullicer explained that the vessel was surveyed in ulasgow last year, and Mas also surveyed at Melbourne at the end of this year. After loading at -Newcastle the load-line was from an inch to an inch and a-quarter clear. Prior to being loaded she was inspected by the Nuvigatioii Department, who found her thoroughly sound and complete in cquipmeut, with all necessary life-saving appliances,-and wellmanned. Wreckage had been picked up in various places on the New Zealand coast. There seemed to be, some little doubt whether the Court had jurisdiction. '-il»T} ***!*) The Judge said it appeared the vessel was lost near New Zealand, He, however, allowed statements to be made by Capiain Williams (Newcastle),-Captain Tyler (shipping master at Newcastle.) and Mr. Newton (Inspector of Navigation), who confirmed the remarks. o« the Crown Law Officer about tlie condition of the vessel when, she left Newcastle. The Judge then ruled tli; Court had no jurisdiction to hold an ir.qtiiry.- It would be a question for Hie Department to consider whether it would, not be advisable to give the Court jurisdiction to hold an inquiry in regard lo vessels where the last port of cull was a port in New South Wales.
