MOA ROAD BOARD.
At tlin monthly meeting of the Hon Road linnrd. held oil Saturday, there were present: Messrs. Trimble (chairman), Guild, Capper, Corkill, Chaniney, Hoby, Lawrence, Sutherland and Young. The Chairman reported that £2OO was available l'or formation on the Davis and Wortley Rants. He had written to the Waitara West ltoud Board, and had received a reply that its £2OO was available at any time.—lt was resolved that if the chairman eould make satisfactory arrangements with the Waitara West Board he should call tenders for the work, such tenders .to be in by the January meeting'. It was decided that tenders, to be in by the February meeting, be called for the erection of the liana bridge. llr. Magee is to be notified that unless his contracts are completed by the next meeting his deposit will lie forfeited.
Before resuming with the Board's business after the lunch adjournment, the annual meeting of ratepayers was held. Only one ratepayer outside the members of the Board attended. The balance-sheet, duly audited, was read anil adopted. No other business was brought forward.
The Board then resumed. Mr. Marsom waited 011 the Board to request that they should form the to]) end of the Norfolk road.—The Board decided that they could do nothing at present. The Board's engineers (Messrs. ifaekav and Orbcll) reported that the work oil the Bedford road had been completed. Jlessrs. Parkins and Kyngdon had completed their metalling contract 011 the Wortley and Lincoln roads. The contractor fo r work on the Richmond and York roads was making good progress, but had lost a few days owing to the broken weather. The foreman is to be instructed to complete the earthwork on the Bedford road in order to make it fit for traffic. Messrs. Lawrence and Douch waited on the Board to ask if they could continue carting logs on the Durham road. The chairman pointed out that neither of the waggons used had the 8-inch tyre as required by the by-law. No action was taken. It was decided to put a tunnel under the Mana road near Mr. Young's propei'tv.
Mr. Hoby pointed out that the metal put on the Wortley and Lincoln roads was above the 2,'/ 2 inches as specified ill the contract. A lengthy discussion took place between the engineers and some members of the Board. It was decided that Messrs. Trimble, Young, Chamney, Hoby, and Corkill should inspect the contract after the meeting and see if the metal was according to specifications.
Mr. Hoby handed in a cheque for £25 towards extending the metal on the Norfolk road past Yates' gate. Mr. W. Ogier was appointed clerk to the Board. Accounts amounting to £750 10s lid were passed ''or payment.
