The Post understands that it is the intention of the members of Mr. Walter Syiues' election committee and oth-.'r friends to murk their appreciation of his long services as their representative in Parliament by making a presentation to hnn, probably at a banquet to be arranged some time in January. Provisional results of. the law examinations in the New Zealand University are to hand. Mr. U. R. Billing (with Messrs. Weston and Weston) lias received intimation that he has passed the tinal section of the LL.JS. examination. Mr. F. K. Tumbull (with Messrs. Wilson and Grey), lias passed the second section of the final LL.B. Mr. J. J. Sullivan. (Land Transfer Department), passed the second* section of the soicitor's examination.

In company with his sister, Miss Power, the rev. gentleman went through (lerniany, Switzerland, Italy, and France, and also made a trip down the Nile. Father Power, with Bishop Verdun, of Dunedin, had u private audience with the Pope ill April, ami was agaiii received by his Holiness in November. Father Power, in conversation with u Wellington pressman, said he noticed a great improvement in tile state of all'airs in Ireland. The people, lie remarked, are rapidly becoming the owners of the land, and.conse(picntly the future is a hopeful one.. lor even now a majority of the occupiers jf land own. their' own holdings.

The latter bears the following inscription --"Presented to Mr. \V. M. Perry by (he connuiltee. choir, and members of St. Andrew's Kirk in token of their appreciation of fourteen years' service as organist." The presentation was made by Mr. lowing, and Mr. Perry suit-alily replied, expressing Ids thanks for the handsome present and regret that circumstances rendered it necessary to resign Lis position. Mr. It. Sinclair also spoke in appreciative terms of Mr. Perry's services.
