CROWN LAND LEASES.
AN IMPORTANT POINT, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Duncdin, Last Night. At the .Supreme Court to-day a ease of importance to lessees of Crown lands was heard. Jas. Bcgg, sheep farmer, of Clinton, asked for an order restrai iing the Land lioard from again letting a lease of a small grazing lull of aeres ill the Curiwao district without olfering him a renewal of the lease which was granted under tlu: Aet of 1885 and expires oa .February 28th, In November, 1007. the Hoard passed a resolution that the reacwal of the lease should not be granlecl lo Hegg and that the land should be dealt with for purposes of closer settlement. Begg now raises the question whether uilil'i' the Aet of 1885 he is not entitled to a right of renewal of the lease, 'the Aet of 1885 provides that this right of renewal is to accrue to a tenant if the Hoard determine to again let it. The Crown says Ihe words "If tile Hoard de- : tevmine to again let" mean "determine to again let as small grazing run.'' His Honor reserved his decision.
