HOLLAND'S VENGEANCE.
GREAT EXCITEMENT IN VENEZUELA. DEFENSIVE PREPARATION'S. Received 15, 10.35 ip.iu. Loudon, December 15. The, action of the Dutch i miser Ze,lderland in capturing the Venezuelan coastguard ship has caused great excitement and some rioting in Venezuela. General Gomez. Vicc-U'rcsidcnl. de. noiinced Holland's agression and ordered the Republic to be placed in a state of defence.
In October tin. President announced in Ihe Venezuelan .Senate that he had dolied Holland, but since then he has invited the hitter country to send a confidential agent to Caracas to arrange terms of an amicable settlement of tiie dispute. Apparently, however, the trouble has not yet been disposed of. There are also awaiting adjustment dillieulties between Venezuela and France, United Stales, Britain, and others of the Powers.
