CADETS IN CAMP.

\esterduy was a fairly busy day at the cadet encampment ut'Te Henui, and it was a long day. The unaccustomed delight of sleeping in tents kept the lads wakeful, and little voices were heard from 1 o'clock onwards, iiy 3.31) the camp was astir, and the earlv birds caught the worms in the shape o"f "odd jobs" prescribed by the officer i n command. About (i o'clock nutritive soup and biscuits were served out, and breakfast at 7 o'clock was a bountiful meal, in this connection we would like ti dispel the idea held in some quarters that the boys in camp are insufficiently fed, or, as some allege, starved. To many of them, n o doubt, it is "the time of their lives."

■More than a momentary lull in the exuberance of the cadets was caused by the news that Sergeant and Private Klenner. of the Waititra cadets, had received sad news in regard to their mother's health.

Visitors to the camp at aa early hour yc-Lcrdny morning might |,ave noticed a widel promoted to the post of cook's assistant. This was his reward for leaving liis tent during the night in. eontravciition of the military code.

On Thursday the headquarters companies of volunteers are to attack the Lcanip, and, upon their defeat, will bo entertained at tea by the cadets. The Kev. S. S. Osborne conducted a lew minutes' religious service on Monday evening, and the Kev. T. G. Brooke yesterday morning, the latter breakfasting at ills camp. The Tarauaki Kduentiou Hoard last night accepted the invitation of the ollicers to visit the camp to-day, and will be entertained at lundi. The"chairman expressed the opinion that members should evince an interest in thfl cadet movement.
