Accused en me to my house, 1 think, about liall.past three yesterday afternoon. I thought 1 heard a noise on the front .verandah. I oipened the door and iomid it was Dr. Goode. lie walked into the sitting-room, and said, "I want to ..peak to you." He was tho worse of liquor. He said had tilings about me, said I was bad with other men, which is untrue,' as I was always true to my husband, lie wanted me to sit on his knee, and said, ''You he mine, or I'll shoot vou." I refused, and he llred two shots at mo at short range, and 1 fell over. Ho tried to lire a third shot, but the revolver would not go off. I heard him sjy, "Are you dead?" I never answered, as f was afraid. I heard him say, "I am going to get some more whisky, and finish myself." He then slammed the door and went away. I did not see him since till now,
Cross-examined by Air. WiUcea: Accused was drunk. 1 could not say how long ho was in the room. He was very excited. His language was very, unusual. He was angry before I refused his request. He had hcea drinking for days. I couldn't say if he could walk straight. Ho tried to shoot himself, but the revolver would not go off. He was always my adviser since ho has been in Waitara. I was quite friendly with him. I think he must have been out of his mind, or he would not loave done what he did. Accused was mad with whisky. I judged from his appearance that he was out of his mind. THE VICTIM'S CONDITION. On enquiry at midnight, Dr. Leatham, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, informed us that Mrs. IClenner's coadition had not inijproved. On the contrary, she was slightly weaker. > ,
