ALLEGED SLY-GROG SELLING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisburne, Tuesday. A man named John Nicholl, who has been wanted since last year, has been arrested on a charge of sly-grog selling at Kuurimu. AN ASSAULT CASE. Lyttelton, Tuesday. Henry Huberts, chief ollicer of the ocean steamer Mauri, was lined .Ci and costs for assaulting' a seaman named Bolan. The latter had gone ashore to consult the shipping master and Huberts was ordered to follow him and get a warrant for his arrest. Hubert* seized Bolan and pinched him, marking' his face very badly. The defendant said he was attacked first. A PECULIAR POINT. Carterton, Tuesday. . At tlie hearing of a charge against the licensee of the Club Hotel for permitting drunkenness, a point was raised that the business was carried on by the widow of the licensee under a permit signed by an S.M., whereas, according to the Act, a permit must also be signed by two members of the licensing; committee. Counsel for defendant raised this point and also the point that no one was authorised to hold a license till tae letters of administration were issued. The case was dismissed. It remains uncertain whether the hotel is now licensed or not.
