THE XEW COUNCIL OE THE .N.Z.A.A.A. Dy Telegraph.-—Press Association. Wellington East .Night. The lirst meeting of the new council of the Xew Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held this eveni.ig. Officers were elected as follows: president, Dr. A. K. Xewinau; vice-president, Mr. .Marrayatl; secretary and treasurer, -Mr. W. (.;. Talbot; auditor, .Mi. C. \\. Ti'ingham. Tile following reinstatement eomniittee ivas set up:—Messrs. Koss, Earkin and Pollock. .Ur. Itoss moved: •That this executive, appointed as the governing body of the X.Z.A.A.A. by delegates at a conference of centres which met at Christehurcli on December sth, jointly ami severally accept ollicc and agree to administer the rules and ' affairs of the X.Z.A.A.A.'' The motion wa» carried unanimously. In declaring the first meeting of the executive open, Dr. Xcwniaii returned thanks for the position in which he had been placed. While be agreed with the remarks that, had been made refuting mis-statements made by members of the so-calleii council lie 'trusted the proceedings of the new council would be of a dignified nature. There was no doubt they represented the great majority of the clubs u, \ew Zealand. All the delegates who went to thi' conference were given 'a free hand bv the centres, and the a.lion of the Wellington centre had been endorsed.

At u meeting of the executive of the Irish Athletic Society to-night it was resolved: "That the time lias arrived when societies should co-operate against the payment of fees and interference of outside governing bodies, recognisin" that (he N.Z.A.I'. is fully competent to rule in this direction." 'The feeling of the meeting was that as societies nailer the t'nion contributed a large, amount of money to amateur athletic and cycling events, as wel las axemen's competitions, the time had arrived when the X.Z.A.Ii. should take over full control.
