THE SPLIT IN THE EXECUTIVE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Uist Xight. Tile subject, of the recent conference of delegates of various athletic centres at which the Council of tile New Zealand Association was declared to be illegally constituted and a new one composed of Wellington men appointed was discussed »t the meeting of the Couuc'l held hero to-night, when it was decided to place the whole facts of the case before the various clubs throughout the Dominion and the executive of the Amateur Athletic I uion of Australasia, Wellington, Last Night. Ill', Coombes, president of the Amateur Athletic Union of Australia, who arrived to-day, was asked his opinion 011 the deadlock existing in athletics in the Dominion, and said thy Australasian Union had no jurisdiction in local iffairs, ami an appeal eould only he discussed after it had heen forwarded by the governing body, which in the case of New Zealand was the Council. The Union might adjudicate by consent of both parties. Without going into the merits of the dispute, which only appeared to concern points of procedure, lie thought it would have been reasonable to - have forwarded an appeal for either an expression of opinion or a ruling. The disaffected side has written to him, and he intends to convene the Australasian t'nioji with a view to healing the breach, but it is clear that the Union can at present only recognise tli? Council. He mentioned that Arnst is slightly favorite in Sydney for the sculling championship. I
