THE PREMIER'S REGRETS.
Received 8, 11.50 p.m. London, December 8. The House of Commons assented to the withdrawal of the Education Bill Jlr. Asquith remarked that the correspondence showed the reasons for the withdrawal of the Bill. He agreed that a chance of settlement was present, and expressed his deep personal disappointment at the breakdown of the negotiations, and admiration for the strenuous, patient and indomitable endeavors of Mr. Walter Runcinian, President of the Education Council, and the peacemakers on both sides. Mr. Asquith designated the Primate "the great Archbishop/'
Mr. Balfour, recognised Mr. Asquitli's sincerity, but criticised the attempt to rush the Bill.
