J3y Telegraph—Press Association. Maslerton, Saturday. Jhe re-count of vules lor the licensing poll gives a majoritv for no-licenso of 31 2-jtli. The grounds of the petition to upset the result are that Masterton was a new dish-id, and no gazette notice was published as required; that persona voted who were not adults and had not been in the Dominion twelve months or had not been in the district three months; that the population has increased by 25 per cent, and therefore voters should have had a proposal to increase licenses j)laced before them; that absentee votes were recorded and there is no jiouer to issue such permits; that many irregularities occurred, particularly by tlie exhibition of placards and by the issue of fresh voting papers to voters who had spoiled their copies; that one booth was dot "opened for half an hour after the proper time. It is also alleged that, jiersons voted who were on the roll for other 'electorates; •No date has vet been fixed for the hearing of the petition.
