A WIFEBEATER
EFFECTIVELY CHASTISED BY THREE WOMEN. A report has come from Beech Forest (says a Geehing pa per I of ho*' three young women residing in that district have dealt with a man who was constantly beating his wife. The man made it a .practice to beat his wife whenever he became intoxicated, and when he thrashed her he usually turned her out of doors. His sister-in-law, a married woman, also living in the district, had frequently threatened to have him thrashed too. if he did not-give up ill-treating his wife, but the threats had no effect.' Recently, after attending Depler's sale, the wife-beater went home drunk, and as his wife was ill, some neighbours carried her away for protection to a farm suiue distance off. Tlr removal of his wife did not cause the husband any worry. He went to bed, ami shortly afterwards his house was invaded by three women, each armed with a 2ft (Jin length of lin rope. They pulled the wife-heater out of bed and belaboured him so severely about the legs and body with the rope-ends that he cried for mercy. They desisted only when they became exhausted, and it was not until three days later that the man was able to leave his bed. The women who took the work of chastising him in hand Were two spinsters (whose brothers are reported to be good boxers) and bis sister-in-law. He has since stated that he intends to prosecute the women, and. while he is being urged to do so, iiy some of the residents, it is not thought i,kely that lie will bring the case into Court.
