Wellington, Last Night, Walter Alister Lindsay was found guilty at the Supreme Court this evening of indecently assaulting a Maori lad, and was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment. INVERCARGILL SESSIONS. lnvoreurgill, Last Night. Reginald Day, late secretary of the Charitable Aid Hoard, was re-tried at the Supreme Court to-day 011 a charge of having misappropriated the Board'? funds. The jury found accused guilty on a charge of having fraudulently omitted to make entries in respect 0: two sums mentioned in the indictment, but not guilty of stealing these .sums. Asked if he had anything to say, Day replied: "Your Honour, 1 shall be glad if you, in passing sentence, will take into consideration the way in which 1 paid attention to my work. I had no experience in the matter of book-keep-ing, and at times 1' got a long way behind with this part of ray work. Mistakes occurred in addition and in banking. It can be shown that I never knew how 1 was getting 011, especially in getting out the balance-sheet. The outside part of the work—attention to outdoor relief and tile prosecution of illegitimate cases and such work—l did faithfully. Book-keeping 1 was never able to do. 1 did not take that money intentionally. It was a blunder. The books will show from beginning to end thai there were blunders, and this was a blunder." He was 11 married man with four small children, and be was practically penniless. Accused was sentenced to twelve months' hard labour.
